I have been working on this fictional novella, GREEN GRASS, for over 15 years. It takes place mostly in Hudson, NY but the area is greatly fictionalized. My idea behind this 49 page novella started with a dream I had in the 1990's long before any 'barbershop' movies made the screen. The heart of the story spans 1885 in the Deep South to Upstate, NY in 1927. Anna, a key narrator in 1945, tells us the past of her family and friends. The story intersects people who have suffered loss, and abuses inherited down through the decades, and how they chose to handle them. It is also a story of self-discovery, and there is a strong element of lesbianism, and a non-graphic thread of sex trade in the early 1900's that enters. I am not a novelist, so please enjoy the read as it is, warts and all... my original plan was to do this as a screenplay. It would have been easy and more the norm to put a male character in place of the character Lily (aka a Brat Pitt type) but I wanted a strong lesbian character, not another strong man dominating a story. Keep in mind I can only see the number # of Facebook Likes, and not F/B comments, so feel free to comment on my webpage, itself. If there is a screenwriter out there who would like to be a part of this, email me. Let's make a movie!
