It is a rare occurrence for me, but it has happened a couple times in my life when I have hit it off almost automatically with a woman. I'm not talking about sex or love or longings. I'm talking about connecting quickly in wit, and depth. At some times along the way I wanted to connect more deeply, but didn't. I left it in my dreams. That inspired this poem.
I lost myself for awhile
High in the hills
Of your dreams -
It happened nightly
Wondered if you might find me there
And wake me up from your despair
Free me from wanting you beside me
I see you walking toward me
But then you turn away
Shaking your head forlornly
As your brow wakes to another day
Spreading out the sunrise
Beyond your dreamscape
I can only float in mind a few more times
As I watch you pull those lonely blinds
But I'll channel my way slowly toward you
And wait for just a little while, maybe
Get to see one slight smile
I think that might settle it for me
Create a distance
'Cause I also need to be free
From wanting you to be near me.
I lost myself for awhile
High in the hills
Of your dreams -
It happened nightly.
