Life is certainly filled with irony.
My mother had a fatal heart attack at the grocery store. Her last words were, "I'm a heavy smoker."
Her death happened Friday, July 17th, as I was leaving work. Work being with people who can zap your energy with the needs mental illness can create. It was a tiring week of regulating medications and behavior plans. On my drive home I heard a siren coming up 'Hospital Hill.'
Let the weekend begin. Forget about the client who phoned an ambulance to her apartment three times this week for her imagined heart attack, stroke, and fake overdose.
I didn't want to get stuck behind the ambulance that I saw in my rearview mirror. Damn, it could be that client. I'm off duty. I floored my gas pedal determined not to pull over for this emergency.
Grinning, I beat it out -- until I got home, and the phone rang.
And so it goes.
