To read a biography on Walter A. Sheaffer, try the link www.sheaffertarga.com, for one source.
Walter invented the lever-filling fountain pen and formulated an easy flowing ink (in 1919) that finally proved successful after his failure of the 'library aka heart-shaped' bottle of ink sold in 1920. The formulated ink proved to be too acidic, especially if used in pens that used other types of inks. The heart-shaped library bottle is rare as the product was recalled. The chemical properties of the ink actually changed. He started to sell reformulated ink again by 1924.
Our bottle in the slideshow may date back to 1924 to pre-1934. The value, based from online searches, can range from a few dollars to $14 based on condition, label, box included.
Our above bottle once held Sheaffer's house brand ink. It sold for approximately 29 cents. After 1934 these bottles changed in design. This bottle, we feel, is pre 1934. It is a cylindrical non-shoulder bottle. It would have come with a stopper, a paper label, and in a box. The bottom: SHEAFFERS 102 SKRIP. Size: 2 3/4" x 2". They were made in the USA.
