The Knowles, Taylor, & Knowles Co. East Liverpool (OHIO): The largest pottery establishment in America at the books printing 1897. It was founded by Isaac W. Knowles in 1853, becoming active in 1854. Mainly one kiln to start for bisque and glost ware (glost means glazed; clayware was glosted.) was powered by a horse. The earlier ware made was called "Liverpool ware,' and was a yellow-ware. I think the first shard is yellow-ware. By 1870 there were two kilns and his sons joined the business.
There is much more information about their production into semi-porcelain, white granite, hotel ware (toilets, sinks, basins et al). By 1891 they started production of 'ornamental pieces' called Lotus ware. There are over 10 trademarks noted in drawings in A Book of Pottery Marks, 1897. The older one we found is not noted in the sketches. Full pieces of their wares can be found online to purchase.
